The Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) takes your privacy very seriously. This Privacy
Policy describes how we treat the information we collect when you visit and use the features of our Web site.
Personal Information
The Chamber does not collect personal information for visitors browsing our Web site. The Chamber may
collect personal information for visitors who choose to create an account, register for an event, post an event
to the community calendar, purchase a chamber product, utilize our online action alert system or opt-in to
receive our email communications. In these cases, the Chamber will collect personal information including
but not limited to: your name, email, phone, company name and address. The Chamber may rent or sell the
personal information of Chamber members and its listservs to third parties for the purpose of marketing.
The Chamber may also share your personal information with our third party Web site administrators (only for
the purpose of serving you) and as required by law.
Aggregate Information
The Chamber collects and shares aggregated information about our members and Web site visitors with our
partners and advertisers. This information does not identify individuals, and is used to provide our partners
and advertisers with information about the volume and activities of visitors to our Web site.
Online Transactions
The Chamber will collect credit card information from visitors choosing to register for an event or purchase a
product from the Chamber Web site. All transactions are processed through our secure online payment
system. The Chamber uses an outside credit card processing company to collect payment for online
transactions made on our Web site. This company does not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable
information for any other purpose. The Chamber will use your credit card information for billing purposes
only and to fill your orders. If we have trouble processing an order, we will use the contact information you
provided to contact you.
Security
All personal information described above is stored on restricted database servers. When you enter sensitive
information (such as a credit card number) on our registration or order forms, we encrypt that information
using secure socket layer technology (SSL).
Action Alerts
The Chamber’s action alert system enables you to send individual emails to the federal, state and local
legislators. These messages are sent in your name, with your email address as the return address and your
full name and contact information is provided as part of the submission. These messages will only be sent
out under your name as you approve them on an individual basis using our action alert tool. You are solely
responsible for the specific message(s) you send using the action alert system on the Chamber’s Web site.
Newsletters and Listservs
The Chamber distributes several online newsletters and listserv mailings each week via email. Visitors to
our Web site can subscribe to our newsletters and listserves. When you opt-in to receive communications
from the Chamber, we will collect your personal information (including but not limited to your name and
email address) for the purpose of delivering these communications to you. Participation in these
communications is voluntary, and you may choose to unsubscribe at anytime.
Surveys, Polls and Contests
On occasion, the Chamber may provide the opportunity to participate in surveys, polls or contests on our
Web site. If you participate, we may request certain personally identifiable information from you.
Participation in these surveys or polls is voluntary and you therefore have a choice whether or not to
disclose your personal information.
Email this Page to a Friend
The Chamber allows you to email pages of our Web site to a friend. If you choose to use our Email this
Page to a Friend feature, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address. The Chamber will
automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit our Web site. The Chamber
stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and for tracking the success this
referral feature.
Data Tracking
The Chamber makes use of browser “cookies.” Cookies are small text files placed on your computer's hard
disk by our server. They allow us to quickly check your status as a member or subscriber to better serve you
on our Web site. The Chamber will never use cookies to retrieve information from a computer that is
unrelated to our site or services. If you wish to disable these cookies, the help portion of the tool bar on
most browsers will tell you how do that. If you set your browser to disable cookies, however, you may not be
able to access certain aspects of the Chamber Web site.
The Chamber may also use log files including but not limited to internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser
type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp and clickstream
data. Log files are used to administer the site, track users’ movements around the site and analyze trends
about the usage of our Web site. Log files do not identify individual users.
The Chamber may also use embedded images in emails to track the open rates for our mailings, so that we
can tell which mailings appeal most to Chamber members and subscribers.
Links to Other Sites
The Chamber provides links allowing you to access third party Web sites. The Chamber is not responsible
for the content that appears on those sites and does not endorse these sites. Please consult those sites'
individual privacy policies in order to determine how they treat user information.
Modification to this Policy
The Chamber may revise or amend this policy at any time at our sole discretion. All changes will be posted
to this Page. We encourage users to visit this page periodically to review our current policy.
